Tiger Woods has a coach. Lebron James and Roger Federer have coaches. Formal mentoring systems are commonplace in corporate America. Why? What can a coach do for you that you can’t do for yourself?
We all have blind spots, barriers we can’t quite understand. We are built to help others, to see things that they themselves can’t see. A good coach listens to the best in their client, and hears the dream that is not being spoken. A good coach is in tune with what is NOT being said.
A good career coach knows what hiring managers are looking for. They know how to show huge business value for their client’s future contributions. They understand corporate environments and business drivers. And they give their clients a fresh perspective with this knowledge.
The client has the answers. My client has big strengths. That is my assumption. What if we were to forget about “development areas” and “weaknesses”, and focus on your natural abilities and passions? All we have to do is find out what your true destiny is, what the story of your life is meant to be. Nothing will stop you.
Curious about why decisions are made, why some things are avoided, why things can’t be different. Let’s make different assumptions. Let’s get to the bottom of things, let’s ask what if, why not, open-ended questions that allow you to ponder, to explore, to dream big. Powerful questions evoke powerful answers that can change someone’s world.
Everyone has a history, everyone has issues, failures, and regrets. But we’re not here to blame or to be a victim. Just the opposite. We are here to live well, to make changes, to dream big, to fill a destiny. If you need revenge, live well! Let’s move ahead. Yes, we discuss what has happened, especially to learn from it. But most of our energy is put into what will be. The rest of your life will be the best part. THE TIME IS NOW. What are we waiting for?
We ask permission to mention that there’s an elephant in the living room and wonder if it should be moved to the zoo. We address self-limiting behavior and beliefs. We expect great things and hold our client accountable for what they say they will do.
What you believe will happen, will often happen. Faith is a powerful weapon. Watch where you point it. If you have a good coach who believes in you, encourages you, and knows you will succeed, it’s hard to fail.
I’m there with you when you make the plan, and I celebrate when you break through, when you succeed. Ain’t nothing better! I am honored when someone asks me to be their coach. It’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.
